Early Intervention

Writer's picture: Mama MMama M

In most states families with children under the age of three who are not reaching age-appropriate milestones, diagnosed with certain conditions, or have medical or social histories which may put them in jeopardy for a developmental delay can qualify for Early Intervention (EI).

EI services are meant to help support families and caregivers and to improve the development and learning of infants and toddlers.

Pediatricians are trained to spot key red flags in well check up visits, and caregivers are often given questionnaires regarding what their child can and cannot do. The pediatricians cannot adequately refer parents and babies to the services they need if parents are not honest while filling out these questionnaires.

At the same time parents who bring up concerns to their child's Dr. and their child's Dr. is not concerned can request an evaluation from Early Intervention themselves.
